Introducing Rowan Godfrey: Head of Technical

This month we are introducing Rowan, our Head of Technical.

  1. Full name: Rowan Godfrey
  1. What is your role within The Flower Hub and what does it involve?

I am the Head of Technical – I manage our Technical and Quality Teams, ensuring that our focus on quality remains unwavering. I live in Naivasha and am pleased to spend a lot of my time in the grower base supporting growers’ technical development, identifying new products and varieties, and keeping a close eye on the quality dispatched from farms for our customers. Working with growers to support improvement is my passion. I work closely with our Procurement and Commercial Teams, we work together to ensure we deliver the best offer possible to the marketplace.

  1. What is your vision for the future of Kenyan horticulture?

My dream for Kenyan Horticulture is true sustainability. Working to improve the land that we are lucky enough to live on, and support the communities we live in. Cut Flowers contribute over 1% to the Kenyan GDP and the industry is a lifeline for over 5 Million people. We must treat our people and the soil under our feet with respect.

  1. What do you enjoy most about your role?

The diversity of my role is a highlight – it’s a cliché to say, but no two days are the same. This week I was in Nairobi for two days working alongside my colleagues, and I’ll be travelling to growers near Eldoret at the end of the week. The growers that we work with are colleagues and getting to work with people who are so passionate about what they do is a pleasure.

  1. What do you enjoy outside of work?

I have three, soon to be four, dogs and enjoy an early morning walk with them. I also play squash twice a week, most weeks. I have a great community of friends around me and enjoy going out for dinner.

  1. What is your secret talent?

I can juggle – both juggling balls and juggling clubs (although it’s been a few years!) and I’m a long distance hiker. A few years ago I completed the Corsica GR20, reputedly the hardest long distance hike in Europe.
